Sony Ericsson to Showcase over 20 Brand new Games Optimized for Xperia Play

In our Xperia Play review, we were dissatisfied with the inability of find games that are specifically adapted for the handheld's controls. It's not a bad thing to note that there are a lot of new games coming out, some old and some new, all designed for this particular brand of button-mashing. Headline titles include Minecraft (a port we've already seen in action) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have been collecting headshots on iOS devices for a while now. Check out the press release after the break for the full list of games, but don't expect much in the way of pricing or availability. The details will be announced at E3 next week, and the Xperia Play will have to stand out against the Sony NGP. We'll have to wait until the right moment to play around with vigor.

Sony Ericsson and Gameloft team together to launch Rainbow Six - Shadow Vanguard exclusively on the Xperia (tm). PLAY. Over 20 games will be showcased at E3 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard in June and July.

London, June 2, 2011 - Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Gameloft again to offer an exclusive experience exclusively for its top gaming phone Xperia(tm) PLAY. This exclusive experience includes access to Tom Clancy's all-action spy thriller Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard, adapted by Ubisoft. Xperia(tm) PLAY brings high-octane, international action games to the Android operating platform by taking full advantage of the smartphone’s exceptional graphics capabilities and game-changing pad. The Android version of the game, which is scheduled to be launched on Friday 3rd June, will be accessible only to Xperia(tm) PLAY players in Western Europe throughout June and July.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, a video game brand based on Ubisoft video game franchise, is among the most popular. It's a highly-charged tactical first-person shooter game that is based on a fictional counter-terrorist force named "Rainbow." The game focuses more on stealth and tactics rather than firepower. Weapons (including assault rifles, high-caliber handguns and uniforms) are chosen to match the abilities of each operative and their mission.

Robert Styppa is Vice President Western Europe at Sony Ericsson. He told me Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, Shadow Vanguard has a large fan base and an interesting gameplay. "The stunning graphics and the unique possibilities with the full gamepad provide a unique user experience."
